How I Operate
How I Operate
Ms. Lindsay’s Creative Workshops is an independently owned small business created to offer meaningful, thoughtfully designed experiences for teens and adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
I intentionally keep workshops small, personal, and flexible. That allows me to focus on the people in the room, adapt activities when needed, and create experiences that feel welcoming, purposeful, and fun.
Most workshops are intentionally limited to a small number of participants. Smaller groups make it easier to build relationships, encourage participation, and give each person appropriate attention and support.
Workshops are designed for individuals who can participate safely in a small-group setting without continuous one-on-one support. Specific ages, group sizes, and participation expectations may vary depending on the experience.
I design each workshop with both the activity and the participants in mind. Most workshops include at least one additional paid, trusted assistant, while larger productions may involve several assistants.
I select assistants based on the needs of each workshop and the skills and experience they bring—whether that means helping in the kitchen, supporting participants during activities, assisting backstage, or helping a production run smoothly.
This allows me to remain actively involved in leading the workshop while making sure additional capable adults are available to support the experience.
Ms. Lindsay’s Creative Workshops is not a nonprofit organization. I intentionally chose to operate as an independent small business so I can remain directly involved in every workshop, keep things flexible, and make decisions based on what works best for participants rather than building a larger organization with a board or extensive administrative structure.
Registration fees help cover the real costs of creating and operating each experience, including facilities, supplies, food, costumes, props, materials, paid assistants, insurance, website and administrative expenses, and the development of future workshops.
Payments made to Ms. Lindsay’s Creative Workshops are not tax-deductible charitable donations.
Being a small business doesn't mean giving back isn't important to me. Certain productions or special projects may be designated to support a nonprofit organization, community cause, or charitable effort.
When a workshop or production includes a charitable component, I will clearly communicate the organization or cause being supported and how the proceeds from that particular project will be used.
Creating a welcoming environment also means taking the responsibility of bringing people together seriously.
Participant information, emergency contacts, workshop expectations, and other important details are collected during registration so I can thoughtfully prepare for each group. A first aid kit is kept readily available at workshops and events.
I also choose locations, activities, group sizes, and additional support based on the needs of the particular experience.
Ms. Lindsay’s workshops are recreational and enrichment-based. They are designed to encourage creativity, confidence, friendships, independence, participation, and a sense of belonging.
Ms. Lindsay’s is not a licensed disabilities service provider, and workshops and productions are not daycare, respite care, medical care, therapy, or clinical services.
What I do provide is something intentionally different: thoughtfully planned experiences where participants can try something new, connect with others, create, contribute, and leave feeling proud of what they accomplished.
Small groups. Thoughtful experiences. Real connection. 💜
